'More women own homes'
Despite females earning on average 25 per cent less than their male counterparts, it is not stopping them from buying property. That's according to Fairinvestment.co.uk which found that despite the gender pay gap, 19 per cent more women have bought their own homes than men. The survey revealed that 14 per cent more men are renting than women, while many males are also staying with their parents for longer.Commenting on the figures, chartered financial planner at the firm Sharon Bratley said that the news was "surprising" both in how much less women were earning and how many more females have mortgages. She said that the "fact that women are buying their own homes reflects the fact that more women are choosing to have a career which enables them to buy a home"."The figures could also suggest that women are better with the cash that they do have than men, considering they have less but still manage to buy a house which involves saving for a deposit," Ms Bratley added. Some first-time buyers may be able to take advantage of current falling house prices although many are struggling to save for a deposit and find a good mortgage deal.
